Friday Night Videos

Seeing as how I've already featured Eddie Murphy and Don Johnson as 80s-era actors who tried their hand at being a rock star, I'd be remiss if I didn't include Bruce Willis. Of the three, Willis' album, "The Return of Bruno," is the only one I actually have. It's not great by any means, but he covers a bunch of Motown classics, so his musical taste isn't bad. I even enjoy his version of "Under the Boardwalk," but the biggest problem is that his voice is very thin, and that's only accentuated by the guest artists who appear throughout the album. The lead single, "Respect Yourself" is a case in point. Willis' vocals are inoffensive--if a little overwhelmed by the production--through the first verse, but when Ruth Pointer shows up, you realize just how out of his depth Willis is. Even so, as a vanity project, it could've been far worse.

Previously on Friday Night Videos... Don Johnson.
