Friday Night Videos

What happens when the B-52s have a song so utterly messed up they can't bring themselves to release it? Put it out as a Fred Schneider solo project! Mere words cannot prepare you for the spectacle that is "Monster." Seriously, this is something you simply can't unsee. And the tune itself is a persistent little earworm. The mind boggles.

Friday Night Videos

I hadn't ever heard of Damien Jurado until a few days ago, but apparently he's had a long and varied music career even without my knowledge. His latest song, "Silver Timothy," certainly has my attention. It's got a throwback, early-70s sound going for it, something that owes a debt to the Zombies. The video's kind of arbitrary, but the music more than makes up for any shortcomings.

Friday Night Videos

I missed the past couple of weeks posting my Friday video feature, because holidays. But I'm back in the saddle now with Jann Arden's 1995 hit "Insensitive." I've always been taken with the lyrical structure and narrative construct of this song, but until I went searching on YouTube for it, I'd never seen the video. I have to say, it is chock-full of striking imagery--eyeball kicks if I'm applying the Turkey City Lexicon--but really, once you get right down to it, the guy's actions in the video aren't those of an insensitive guy, are they? Quite the opposite, I'd say.
