Friday Night Videos

Friday Night Videos

We lost Harry Belafonte last week. He was a sublime performer with great acting talent and an even better singing voice. Although he is most known as the man who brought calypso to the U.S. in a major way, he primarly viewed himself as a folk singer. Beyond that, he was a greater humanitarian and magnificent human being. Rather than "The Banana Boat Song" which most remember him by, I'd like to share his duet with Odetta of the old folk campfire song "A Hole in the Bucket", which shows off his playfulness as well as great comedic timing. Godspeed, good sir.

Friday Night Videos

Harry Belafonte is a great entertainer, period. I guess our Caribbean cruise is still sticking with me, because I've been in the mood for his calypso ever since we got back. I actually wanted to feature "Coconut Woman" today, but couldn't find a video online. So we'll settle for this performance of "Matilda", which is still pretty cool, any way you look at it.
